1st XI: Lindegaard Rafael -- Evans -- Vidic -- Evra Valencia -- Jones -- Cleverley -- Young Kagawa Robin van Persie/Rooney Bench: De Gea, Rio, Tunnicliffe, Scholes, Nani, Welbeck, Rooney/van Persie - depending on form. Where are Smalling and Hernandez? I think it is a big year for Smalling. Hopefully once he comes back from his injury he gets an extended run at centre half and cements himself alongside Vidic. Would probably have DDG in goal too, but I'm not too fussy, tbh. Apart from those two, that is a team I would like to see.

And Ben Arfa is far from good enough for us. And his personality is a big issue. Thanks, but no thanks. Far from good enough? I'd take him over Young any day of the week. If Pardew can keep him under control I'd have faith in Fergie doing the same!

I'd take most PL wingers over Young. That doesn't necessarily mean he's good enough for us though. I'd take Ben Arfa over Bebe as well. Doesn't really mean much, does it?

Oh come on guys. Young is a good player and you lot are banging on as if he is awful.
He put in some important performances for us last season.

Smalling would compete/rotate with Rio in that spot. He'd also get games rotating Rafael and Evans. Evan should be first choice partner to immovable Terminator though. Well that goes without saying. I'd take most PL wingers over Young. That doesn't necessarily mean he's good enough for us though. I'd take Ben Arfa over Bebe as well. Doesn't really mean much, does it? You're vastly under-rating Ashley Young if you're putting him on par with Bebe. I don't understand where this notion that he's a terrible footballer has come from. The other thing is about Ben Arfa's attitude, I mentioned it elsewhere. Maybe we need a few shiteheads in the dressing room to give us a bit of an edge back. But I'm not sure Ben Arfa's attitude is the sort we're looking for.

Nani: Inconsistent Young: Not a complete liability when off-form.

More consistent, but not as fantastic at his best?

Lower highs but much higher lows?

Young's diving is also an issue. It makes us look bad and it's embarrassing to say the least. The hop and split that he does might fool the refs but it doesn't fool the fans. Sure he won us a penalty or two, but he also tarnished our reputation. We shouldn't have to cheat to win. Leave that sort of behavior to the scousers.
Young had a couple of good performances last season. Nani was far far better and I still think he didn't do well enough which is plenty of ammunition for me to have a go at Young.
He's good at his best, like he was against Arsenal, but really poor at his worst like he was for most other games he played. He really doesn't know how to beat a good defender 1 on 1 and his deliveries into the box aren't good enough.
What we really need is a left footed winger. If we had that, we'd be settled. I still think we should have gone for Bale, but I guess Spurs didn't want to sell.
World class left footed left winger, 4-4-2 and we would be unstoppable.

Also, Ben Arfa could be nicknamed "Barfa". Need I say more?

Young when off form works harder for the team, and generally will deliver one quality ball into the box, which we generally should score from. Nani when off form doesn't put the extra effort in to help the team and his crossing is abysmal. But when Nani is bang in form he's devastating, unlike Young when he's bang in form.

If it wasnt for Young on the left at times last season we would have been in the shit alot more as he tracks back. Nani doesnt. Same for Tony V. Can make all the difference at times.
We could afford to allow Ronaldo to not track back at times as he was always capable of popping up with a game changing/winning moment or 2 - and he did.
