Not just Ronaldo, but the one player who has thrown it into stark focus for us is van Persie. You look at how much of an immature twaddle he was, and how much he has improved mentally. Then you look at his dedication to fitness and general wellness. Rooney by comparison is a joke.

If Rooney is "Mr United" then the club is fucked tbh

There is only one person currently who can be considered "Mr United" - Sir Alex Ferguson. He personifies what United was and is. It's almost as if his life-force is bound to the club or something.

There's no such thing as 'Mr United' as the club is bigger than any one man.

Sir Alex isn't Mr. United - he is just everything but Roonayyyy is Mr. United in terms of players on the pitch

Fergie
"The Wayne Rooney nonsense first? Or do you want to talk sense? The issue you're all going on about is rubbish. There's absolutely no issue between Wayne Rooney and I. The suggestion we don't talk on the training ground is nonsense. The decision to not play him was purely tactical and he understood that. Wayne will be here next year. You have my word on that"

Agree 100% he hasn't lived up to the potential he undoubtedly has. However I still think he paid his transfer fee back in buckets and I for one wont be wishing him out the door this summer although it seems increasingly likely he will leave. I would love to see Wazza in an out and out CM role. Give him 10 games in there to see if he can cut it. In fact if we have an dead rubber league games towards the end of the season Fergie would be nuts not to try him out here. Personally, if we had any dead rubber games, I'd prefer to see Nick Powell getting a go. He's doing pretty well for the U21s and I think deserves another go in the first team. It would be great experience for him and set him up for next season. As for Wazza...I think he has been great for us but as others have said, is this as good as he's going to get? Did he reach what was thought to be his potential? Also, if not, were we (United) in any way to blame for him not developing as everyone thought he would? I would like to see more of the lad in the first team too, he has great potential, hopefully he will get a few games. They are playing him as a forward though, which I thought strange, as I dont think he will be getting into the first team attack anytime soon. Selling Rooney may be the best way forward for us.IMO he peaked early due to being a man-child and that same physique will be what finishes him early. He is already built like a darts player and doesnt appear to have the sense to lead a healthier lifestyle in order to extend his career/earning potential. The signing of Kagawa, who operates best in Rooneys position and reported interest in Lewandowski, although quite likely a contingency plan, point to at least to a change of position for Wayne.

yeah. he was so up for that game, it was almost kid-like enthusiasm from the gaffer. i think that decision and that defeat hurt him badly, probably right up there with losing the title on goal difference last year.

what else do you expect Fergie to say with few months until the transfer window.....anything else and there would be a media frenzy and an unnecessary distractions and mess around our team when we have two much more important things than Rooney to concentrate on - PL and the FA Cup...
