Lille's version of events: "It's incomprehensible. We wanted to place the reserves (substitutes), of course the referee didn't want to," Puel told French television. "He didn't find a delegate (official) either on the bench." Lille almost walked off in protest at the decision, with captain Gregory Tafforeau also critical of the official for allowing the quick free-kick to stand. Tafforeau said: "When the goalkeeper asks to place his wall, you should wait for the referee's whistle. "There was no whistle at all and the player shot directly. The result is (a) goal." The French side also had a goal disallowed, after Peter Odemwingie was adjudged to have pushed Nemanja Vidic and Puel was upset to see his striker penalised. He added: "The defender is beaten, he's touched a bit and plays for the foul. "We played a great second half and shook up this great team. We had the better chances. "I'm proud of my players. They showed we're not here by chance." -------------------- The only chances they had were from one or two of our mistakes, and only small chances, we had about 5 one on one's and missed them all! If he watched the replay Vidic couldn't stay on his feet if he tried, and he did try. I honestly believe Lille stayed on the pitch after they saw Fergie screaming at Nev, wouldn't blame them either the way he looked Wow. The balls of this guy. Learn the rules of the sport champ, then complain. Giggs' goal was legit, there were no players in the way, and they didn't ask for a whistle, the ref walked away, and yes, it stands. Then as for their disallowed goal? Riding the back of Vidic to the ground..well if that's not a foul, I don't want to see what one is. He should be ashamed that he tried to call his players off the pitch to leave the game. Disgraceful. UEFA needs to come down hard because of this

I'm sorry to say but if we had their goal disallowed we'd be fuming, they should've got a 1-1 draw out of this. Giggs' goal was fair but so was theirs, it seemed Vidic either misjudged the header or dived.
The French police and the Lille officials were a disgrace and I hope our fans are ok.
It was a great result though and that's one foot in the second round we've just got to be professional at OT.
Carrick and Scholes were great in the first half and we controlled the first 55-60 minutes but they got a foothold up until our goal.
They were dangerous, they were pissing me off asking for the cards but what can you do.
We've got the away goal and haven't conceded. Great result.

EASY EASY! Lol ok, so a little on the lucky side tonight. Swings and roundabouts after Ole's goal was disallowed on Saturday though right Seen Ryan do that a couple of times in the past year now, good on him. When Henry does it, he's a twat. When Giggsy does it he's cheeky. And what? Lille are the biggest bunch of pussies going, their players and their fans. Fuckin walking off the pitch, do me a favour

Im in 2 minds about Vidic. If he stayed on his feet he would have got there first so what's the point in him going down? His hands were all over him, but we don't know how much force was in it. According to Fergie in his interview, the whistle had gone before the ball went in.
As for the Giggs goal, it was fair as the rules do state that once the ref steps aside, the free kick can be taken. You see this when player's take quick free kicks. Why should the rule be any different just because it was further up the pitch?

Giggs' goal was fair but so was theirs, it seemed Vidic either misjudged the header or dived. Vidic was already commited to the header and was given a slight push which took him out of line with the ball, it wasn't much but it didn't need to be and it was a good spot by the ref, we probably would have been fuming if it had been us but it wouldn't stop it being the right decision

Even ITV admitted it was a foul in the end. The only thing Lille deserves is to be chucked out head over heals of the competition. I'm still pissed off. Fucking pathetic behaviour, they're supposed to be professionals, they're in the champison league, not some poxy sunday kick about in the park.

I couldn't agree more ITV's comments during the post match commentary were spot on. As were Fergie's. How fucking childish do you have to be to take the ball, and try to take your players off the pitch. Lille should be chucked out of the CL for behaviour like this

To be honest as much as I think Lille deserve to be chucked out the Champions League, I don't want it to happen. The reason is that assuming we win it people would remember it for the fact that we got a sort of "bye" to the quarters. I would much rather we play and beat the fairly.
Hopefully they will be punished by not letting their fans come to OT.

I don't agree that they should be thrown out. Worse things have happened. Besides, if they were going to get chucked out of Europe, it should be because of there fans throwing things on the pitch. How fucking thick must you be to throw things. Surely the fans must know that this could get them banned from Europe.
We will do UEFA a favour by kicking them out of the Champions League ourselves.

Madness #gun1-1# < Crowd control! The game though...I thought we were JUST the better team in a tough game to play well in. I thought their goal should've stood. Be honest, we would be fiming if that was a utd goal dissalowed in that way. But Lille proved to have no class and I really hope we beat them convincingly at OT just to rub it in more. WELL DONE GIGGSY

Missed the first hour but I enjoyed the game a lot. We were fucking dire most of the time I watched but we got the rub of the green with a slightly dodgy ref. I know Giggs' goal was perfectly legal but I don't like the fact that it is legal. When Henry does it it pisses me off so much. Lille were fucking hilarious though. Anyone got Fergie's post match interview coz I missed it?

Giggs' goal was fair but so was theirs, it seemed Vidic either misjudged the header or dived. I don't think Vidic took a dive, as it would be incredibly stupid of him to do that in his own area, with the forward right in front of the net, and hope the referee notices. He might have misjudged it but from what I saw, there was a little bit of contact and so it was rightly disallowed. As for our goal, it was perfectly fair and a good goal. Unlike most of the people here, I really like Henry and every time he does that, I always think it's a clever piece of work. Shame Lille didn't walk off though, would have been a 3-0 win for us and no need to play the return leg, would help a lot with the FA Cup replay and all. ;D

I read that Lille actually, physcially, walked off the pitch during regular time. Is this true?
If so, should lille be kicked out of the CL? <--that would make sense to me.

Yeah, they started walking towards the bench and the ref ordered them to come back. It didn't look like Vidic dived because Owneddemfrenchies did push into him. Either way to walk off the pitch because you don't agree with the call is childish and silly; the behavior of the Lille supporters was absurd and shameful.
