V. With United having bagged the valuable away goal on the 20th last month, this game will be a hard one for our defense. Even with our most recent form and confidence, Lyon are a force to reckon with. I am going to be wary of the result and would like us to put our best foot forward. My team: Edwin Van der Sar
Evra - Vidic - Ferdinand - Brown
Hargeaves
Ronaldo - Anderson - Nani
Rooney - Tevez
*Edit - Bench - Carrick, Saha, Scholesy, Kuszczak, O'Shea, Fletcher, Park (Giggsy or Neville, if fit and ready to play, instead of Park) 2-0 United anyone?

The reason I am not sure if Fergie will start Scholesy is because he played full 90 mins against Fulham and SAF might wanna give him as much rest as possible before the next game. It was a toss for me between Carrick and Hargreaves. And having seen Hargo's performance the day before, it is more likely to see him start.

I'd say Hargearves is a definite as he did such a good job on Juninho in the first leg. I know what you mean about Scholesy, but I think Fergie will start either him or Carrick for their passing.

I think Hargreaves should play purely for the fact that he can keep Juninho quiet and if we don't concede we progress..
And I can't see past Anderson..

5 subs? We in an injury crisis? Why? How many would you like? 7 subs in Europe is the norm!

I am not so nervous about this game, I think the team know what is required. Last two weeks in the League we have played from 2nd gear, kicking up when we've needed to. That should allow us to really go at Lyon from the start. If we can keep Benzema off the scoresheet, I think we may be OK. Juninho is a threat, but I think he can be contained. I'd be tempted to start with Hargo and Carrick. Michael has been in good from, and he especially seems to perform well in Europe. I also think that the formation should be similar to the one we used against Arsenal, allowing Anderson/Scholes to start aswell. VDS Wes --- Ferdinand --- Vida --- Evra Carrick --- Hargo --- Scholes
Ronaldo -------------------- Rooney Tevez

My team: VDS
Brown - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Ronaldo - Carrick - Hargreaves - Nani
Rooney - Tevez I'd like Anderson in there but we need to keep Juninho quiet (Hargreaves) and Carrick for his through balls.

Edwin Van der Sar
Evra - Vidic - Ferdinand - Brown
Hargeaves/Carrick Ronaldo - Anderson/Scholes - Nani
Rooney - Tevez/Saha
Subs: Scholes/Anderson, Saha/Tevez, Fletcher, Pique, Simpson. Carrick/Hargreaves, O'Shea/Eagles
The players without slashes are musts for me, based on form and reliability. Otherwise, I have no idea, any one of the 2 will do.

Rooney - Tevez I'd like Anderson in there but we need to keep Juninho quiet (Hargreaves) and Carrick for his through balls. I definitely see Hargreaves in this one for the reasons other have posted. I think Scholes and Giggs will be on the bench as super subs if we're looking to play the best players in form at the moment. I'm not convinced this is going to be an easy one because we have to keep Lyon from scoring and one away goal on their part and it's a different story for us. I see a lot of 4-4-2 formations here but I get the feeling it will be 4-5-1. I do think we'll get the win though.

We need the right players for the 4-5-1/4-3-3/4-2-3-1 to work and Fergie doesn't always pick the right players imo.

Vds Brown - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Hargreaves Scholes - Carrick
Ronaldo ---------------------Tevez Rooney Subs: TK - Oshea - Flecther - Anderson - Nani - Saha - Giggs That's the best I could come up with. It could quite easily be very different, and you couldn't argue if it was. I'd happily see that team, and I'd happily see Nani and Anderson start. I like that team though, lots of experience and plenty of players who can make a big impact from the bench. It's gunna be a tough one but I think we'll come out with a 2:0. Rooney and Nani from the bench. ;D
